‘Miss Austen’: Keeley Hawes & Rose Leslie Join TV Adaptation

Keeley Hawes (It’s A Sin, Bodyguard) and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones, Vigil) will star in Miss Austen, the television adaptation of Gill Hornby’s bestselling novel that’s in the works for Masterpiece. The BBC has acquired the series, which is distributed by Federation Studios.

Patsy Ferran (Living) and Alfred Enoch (How to Get Away with Murder) have also joined the cast of the adaptation from BAFTA-winning writer Andrea Gibb, as well as Max Irons (The Wife), Calam Lynch (Bridgerton), Jessica Hynes (Years and Years), Mirren Mack (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey), Kevin McNally (The Crown) and Liv Hill (Elizabeth Is Missing).

The four-part drama, directed by the BAFTA-winning Aisling Walsh, started filming last month in the UK and is produced by Stella Merz.

Set in 1830, Miss Austen takes a literally mystery — Cassandra Austen (Hawes) notoriously burning her famous sister Jane’s letters — and reimagines it as a heart-breaking story of sisterly love.

“Miss Austen is a beautifully told story about the loves and losses of the Austen sisters. I’m thrilled that this heartfelt, romantic, and funny adaptation is in the hands of a remarkable ensemble cast led by the incredible Keeley Hawes,” said Susanne Simpson, Masterpiece Executive Producer.

Miss Austen is a co-production of Bonnie Prods and Masterpiece, in association with the BBC and Federation Stories. EPS are Christine Langan for Bonnie Prods, Simpson for Masterpiece and Polly Williams for Federation Stories. Hawes, Gibb and Walsh are also EPs.

Masterpiece is presented on PBS by GBH Boston.
