MS Society UK’s 2020 virtual Christmas concert

One year ago, Rose Leslie & husband Kit Harington attended MS Society UK’s « Christmas Carols by Candlelight » event in London and both did a reading to help raise money for the charity and fund the Stop MS Appeal. (Click here to know more about MS Society UK).

This year the event happened online on December 15th and Rose once again did a reading, this time recorded from her home. I bought a ticket and managed to record her lovely short performance, enjoy !

Interview for “Digital Spy Magazine” (Issue 5, December 2020)

Even though the movie has been indefinitely delayed, interviews related to « Death on the Nile » are still being released. This time, Rose talked at length to Digital Spy Magazine (available only on Apple News +) about her character Louise Bourget, how she stayed with her sister in Nice to work on her French accent and filming on a real boat.

Accents aren’t always an actor’s best friend, but for Rose Leslie, the French accent she had to adopt for Death on the Nile was a « real draw » for her taking the part. So does this mean that she has a foolproof plan for tackling any accent going? « Well, there’s a bit of a cheat on my behalf, » Leslie tells Digital Spy with a laugh, explaining that she spent three years in France when she was younger.

« I felt that something was already established there – not that I speak fluent French, but it’s definitely something that I would be able to tap into, » she continues. « Before we started shooting, I went and stayed with my older sister and her family, who live in Nice, which was obviously a wonderful excuse, and I pretended that it was for work.

« I stayed with her for several days and did the best that I could in terms of immersing myself within their world there, and listening to the accent, and trying my very best to make it as authentic and real as possible. »

While she previously starred opposite Vin Diesel in « The Last Witch Hunter », « Death on the Nile » marks Leslie’s biggest movie role to date and sees her play Louise Bourget, the devoted lady’s maid to Gal Gadot’s wealthy heiress Linnet Ridgeway.

Rose Leslie: « I am proud of The Good Fight »

Interviewed at the end of September by French magazine « TV Magazine » about Death on the Nile, Rose was also asked a couple of questions about « The Good Fight » which she starred in for 3 seasons from 2017 to 2019. As the third season will premiere on French TV channel « Téva » on November 22nd, they shared what she had to say about the show.

French fans can read the original interview by clicking here ; for the others, I have tried to translate the interview as best as I could :).

Note : they mentioned that Death on the Nile will be released in theatres in early 2021. While the movie has indeed been delayed, no new release date has been announced for now.

INTERVIEW – The wilding from Game of Thrones, wife of Jon Snow – Kit Harington in real life -, is one of the heroines of The Good Fight – a spinoff series of The Good Wife – whose season 3 (2019) premieres on November 22 on Téva.

Michelle and Robert King, writers of the great legal TV show The Good Wife, created a spin-off in 2017 which is also a sequel. Without Julianna Margulies, but with the impeccable Christine Baranski – Diane Lockhart and her chic outfits in the most perfect bad taste. The Kings thus continue to shed light on the machinery of American justice and politics, while sticking to the news, in an increasingly satirical and resolutely anti-Trump spirit. In the third season of this fiction carried by strong female characters, young lawyer Maia Rindell (Rose Leslie) takes off by collaborating with an old barrister, a shrewd old fox, played by Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex, Good Omens ) … Interviewed at the end of September by TV Magazine about Death on the Nile, a new adaptation of Agatha Christie by Kenneth Brannagh, in theaters in early 2021, the British actress spoke enthusiastically about the significance of The Good Fight (at 8:55 pm on Téva), which she left at the end of this season.

TV MAGAZINE. – What seemed most important to you in The Good Fight? Feminism? The engagement against Donald Trump? The defense of the black community?

A bit of all of that, I think. The Good Fight, in the most brilliant way, tends to hold a mirror to America, its political landscape, the way it is made. The show takes real politicians into account and as a point of honor it recalls the truth with relevance. Michelle and Robert King managed to take a bold stand. I am proud to have been part of a project that had the courage to tackle current events, day after day, taking place in Congress, on Capitol Hill, with the passing of laws in progress…

Did you feel like you were carrying a message?

No, because what I liked the most, really, was the way it was presented. The writers told the truth to allow viewers to make up their own minds. The message was not « You should be a Democrat » or « You should be a Republican ». The goal was not to change people, but rather to tell them, « Here are the facts ». These were offered in the form of entertainment in the hope that it would help the public to become informed, to ask the right questions and to create a healthy debate.

Banchory Bangles charity fundraiser in aid of Children 1st

In a new video, Rose has backed a long-running Aberdeenshire charity raffle, the Banchory Bangle, to help support vulnerable children all across Scotland. The annual fundraising raffle is in aid of Scotland’s national children’s charity Children 1st and will close on 29th November at 2.30pm.

Scottish actor Rose Leslie has pledged her support to the Banchory Bangle – an annual fundraising raffle in aid of Children 1st. Rose said ‘now more than ever’ vulnerable children and families across the country need support.

In this exclusive video, Rose, who also stars in Death on the Nile, a film adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel, says: « I’m thrilled to be involved with this Children 1st fundraiser for the Banchory Bangle raffle. Every penny raised goes to Children 1st who do incredible work with children, families and communities across Scotland. Now more than ever they need our help. If you can, please buy some online raffle tickets and support children and families this year!«

For the first time in 43 years, Deeside’s annual Banchory Bangle fundraiser has gone online to ensure the charity can continue to keep children safe and families strong through the coronavirus pandemic.

The Banchory Bangle, which is designed by prominent Perthshire artist and engraver, Dr Malcolm Appleby MBE, and raffled annually by the Children 1st Deeside Committee has raised over £160,000 funds for the children’s charity since it began in 1977.

Nicky Bradford, from the Children 1st Deeside Committee hopes that with Rose’s support, they can raise more money for the children and families in Scotland who need it most. She said: “We are incredibly grateful to Rose for supporting the 43rd Banchory Bangle. This is an amazing opportunity to win an iconic piece of jewellery and support Scotland’s children and families. We are really excited to be holding this raffle online for the first time and can’t wait to see those sales coming in.”

Susan Bradley, Head of Public Fundraising, Children 1st said: “We are absolutely delighted with the support Rose Leslie is giving to Children 1st. The bangle is an incredible piece of artwork with has been lovingly crafted. The decision to make the bangle tickets available online is fantastic. Not only can people purchase tickets safely during this very difficult time, but anyone, no matter where they are, can purchase one.”

THE NEW YORK POST — There’s a change in Rose Leslie lately. Her husband’s noticed it: “He said, ‘Something’s different,’ ” the Scottish actress says. “I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m wearing foundation!’

She’s due back on a BBC set in Glasgow shortly after our interview, and can’t wait to be working again. “After these seven months, the idea of putting on makeup felt very strange,” says the actress, on Zoom from her home in London. “I’m excited to tackle the wardrobe again.

Leslie, best known for her fur-clad “Game of Thrones” character Ygritte, looks right at home in the warm, sumptuous knits of her Alexa shoot. In her personal style, she keeps it simple. “Not many patterns, kind of a tailored cut, flattering for the figure,” she says. “I like to give it an edge, with either a chunky boot or some earrings, but otherwise, it’s relatively minimalist.

Her tailoring may have to be altered in the coming months, as Leslie, 33, recently went public with the news that she and her husband, Kit Harington, are having a baby. “I am thrilled to be expecting, and I can’t wait to meet the new member of our family!” she tells us.

But first, she’s enjoying a return to quasi-normalcy, shooting the six-part crime thriller “Vigil,” which paused production in March and resumed in September. Even though it means COVID-19 testing every three days and a marked lack of hugs, she’s grateful to be back.

Stepping into the hair-and-makeup trailer, and seeing those wonderful ladies in visors and masks and aprons, these dear friends — it felt strange not to go in for a hug,” she says. “I’m a very tactile person with my friends, but the elbow bump is going to have to be enough for now.

MAKE MAGAZINE – Not many people can pull off a Stella McCartney floor-length silk frock and a fashion shoot when expecting a baby but Rose Leslie shows no sign of fatigue. Laughing with the crew during makeup prep, swapping lockdown stories and nodding with her gorgeous grin when everyone agrees that her Good Fight co-star Christine Baranski is utterly brilliant.

Downing cups of tea, Rose is radiantly happy and excited, clearly loving the experience. It’s Rose’s first shoot in the UK for four years. She’s been away living in New York while filming the hit spin-off from the equally brilliant The Good Wife for most of the time. That, and Rose has been decidedly low-key since her marriage to Kit Harington in 2018.

Interview for « Stylist Magazine » (Issue 523, 23 September 2020)

Like most of us, lockdown forced Rose Leslie into a period of reflection. Ahead of her new Agatha Christie adaptation, the actor shares what she learned with Stylist.

If I come across a lake or stream I’m always drawn to jumping in and immersing myself in the cold water; it’s a thrill.” Rose Leslie is telling Stylist about her love of cold water swimming, which she braves, without a wetsuit, year-round.

It’s one of the reasons she’s excited about returning to Glasgow next week to resume filming new BBC drama Vigil (which was paused for – well, you know why: the c-word), a police thriller by the creators of Bodyguard, likely to air in 2021. Leslie stars alongside Suranne Jones, as they investigate the disappearance of a fishing trawler and a death on a nuclear submarine. It’s not only the water that draws her back north of the border, it also feels like home. Leslie was raised in a castle in Aberdeenshire, although she now lives in London with her husband Kit Harington, also an actor, and the whippet puppy they have been raising during lockdown.

The last few months have been a time to reflect on her fast-paced life and a career that has been as varied and chameleon-like as any young actor might hope for, taking in huge American dramas Game Of Thrones (she met Harington on set) and The Good Fight and hit British shows including Downton Abbey and Luther. Next month we’ll see her in Death On The Nile, an all-star cinematic adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel. In conversation, Leslie is as refreshing as that cold water she likes to throw herself into. She’s smart, funny and open, and our chat runs from anxiety and social media insecurity to the joy of Daisy Cooper in This Country.

I FIND SOMETHING REASSURING ABOUT AN AGATHA CHRISTIE NOVEL OR ADAPTATION. WHAT WAS THE APPEAL FOR YOU OF MAKING DEATH ON THE NILE?

« The appeal was not only to work with Sir Kenneth Branagh, but who doesn’t love an Agatha Christie? Detective stories are right up my street. I’ve always found it quite cathartic that justice is served at the end. It’s also the decadence of Agatha Christie and her world, the costumes are so fabulous and the world is so polished. It’s a warm hug. »

ARE YOU ADEPT AT FIGURING OUT WHO DID DO IT?

« No. I can work it out several pages before [the reveal] but that’s it. I remember reading Big Little Lies and a good friend worked out that it was the horrendous abusive husband. That had not landed with me. Despite revelling in those books, I’m not good at sussing them out. »
