New Look at ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’

HBO dropped a first look at its upcoming drama series “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” releasing new images Tuesday and announcing the show is coming this spring.

The series — an adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s novel — stars “Divergent” actor Theo James as the time traveling Henry DeTamble, and “Game of Thrones” alum Rose Leslie as his wife Clare Abshire.

The six-episode season is being billed by the cable network as “an intricate and magical love story,” adapted by executive producer Steven Moffat. David Nutter, who directed the “GoT” pilot, directed the series. The show follows Claire and Henry whose marriage is plagued by the problem of time travel.

On Tuesday’s HBO panel for the show as part of the Television Critics Association Winter Tour, Nutter addressed a casting question from TheWrap, and said when he read the script, he zeroed in on fellow “Game of Thrones” alum Rose Leslie.

“I think Steven [Moffat, EP] has impeccable taste, which is so wonderful to learn from, but I have to say … when I read the first 23 pages of the script there was only about one redhead that I knew that could’ve played this role,” Nutter said of Leslie. “And it was one that I’d worked with before.”

As for James, Nutter said he spotted his work on the CBS 2013 series “Golden Boy” and had kept him in mind ever since, reaching out when the Henry role came up.

Alongside James and Leslie, the cast includes Desmin Borges as Gomez and Natasha Lopez as Charisse.

The series is an HBO and Warner Bros. Television production. Moffat executive produces alongside Sue Vertue and Brian Minchin through Hartswood Films; Joseph E. Iberti; and David Nutter.

Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams starred together in the big screen adaptation of the story in 2009.

sked by a reporter about the difference in Claire and Henry’s ages — she meets him when she’s a child, and he’s an adult — and how they got to a point where they were OK with the characters’ romance “or if he was grooming her?”

“In terms of the age difference, there is never any suggestion at any point in the book, in the movie, in our version, that there’s anything other than the fact that Henry is in love with the grown up version of Claire,” executive producer Steven Moffatt said, insisting this is a grown-ups love story, and noting Henry treats child-aged Claire as a child.

During the panel, Moffat also addressed making the book into a series, and said the “great advantage of a miniseries is we can do the whole story.” He also said that when he first read the book, it prompted him to craft an episode of his former show, “Doctor Who,” inspired by “The Time Traveler’s Wife” — “The Girl in the Fireplace.”

He also said he wanted to explore the story because “it makes the most common phenomenon of a completely happy marriage interesting again.”

‘Death On The Nile’ Interview for ‘TV Magazine’

‘Death On The Nile’ Interview for ‘TV Magazine’

A new interview of Rose has been released online ahead of the release of ‘Death of The Nile’. It likely took place a while ago when the movie was still set for a 2020 or 2021 release. Considering the pandemic and controversies surrounding the cast, barely any promotional content has been released since then outside of teasers and trailers. I took care of translating the interview from french to english so I apologize in advance for any potential mistake I might have made !

TV MAGAZINE. – What attracted you to Death On The Nile ?

Rose LESLIE. – I love doing accents! It helps me when the character has an accent. And I was even more seduced with Louise Bourget, who speaks with a French one. This woman gets carried away by the parties, those receptions where champagne flows, the glamour and the fabulous, almost decadent lifestyle of her employer, to the point of forgetting her condition. Before being harshly reminded, like a child being punished for having too much fun. Linnet stopped Louise from marrying the man she loved in order to keep her in her service. It created a lot of distress and built a grudge that could eventually lead to murder… It’s quite exciting to talk about and to portray. But the key point was the opportunity to work with Kenneth Branagh, I was convinced that he would do a fantastic job, he is an absolute icon of British theatre and cinema as well.

How did you prepare for this role?

I thought it was important to have the most authentic French accent possible. My older sister has been living in Nice for three years. It was a great excuse to visit her! I spent my time listening to the accents when we were shopping, or going to the supermarket, or dropping my nephew off at the nursery… I had read the book when I was young because I was always a big fan of Agatha Christie and crime novels in general. I tried to find some memories of it, but in order not to be too confused, I chose to focus on the script. That was my guideline.

What does Branagh bring to Agatha Christie?

He understands it. He brings new answers within the drama, combines the fascination we all have with the macabre and a sense of fun, a pleasure for the eyes – especially with the sublime costumes -, and an incredible work to recreate the era.

What kind of director is he?

His dedication is remarkable, and so is his efficiency. He leads us, turns around and, oh, he’s Hercule Poirot, without any apparent effort! He always stays calm, pleasant ; he carries us. On set, he makes sure to create a nice atmosphere, it was really a very joyful experience.

What does it mean for you to have been part of Game Of Thrones?

That means my marriage to Kit Harington! (laughs). I’m very happy to have been part of the adventure. After leaving the show, I realized the opportunities that this series gave me career-wise. It has been a great springboard and I am very grateful for it. I also kept Ygritte’s bow, it’s very special to me, it’s really a lovely memory.

Do you have a lot of conversations with your husband about your job?

Yes, it’s wonderful for me to be married to an actor because we talk a lot about our work, we both love our job deeply and it’s a strength to be able to bring ideas to each other, to understand each other, to support each other.

How did you experience the different periods of confinement? Did you manage to turn it into something artistically creative?

We were lucky with the restrictions imposed. It was just the two of us and we raised a little dog, it kept us very busy, it was a great distraction. At the creative level, hmm… We read a lot, walked, but no, in the end, we mostly trained this little dog! I discovered the importance of slowing down, how beneficial it is to take your time, to enjoy small things, to observe nature. . . I also realized that it takes a lot of adrenaline to live in London.

‘Death on the Nile’ Special Dinner in London

On February 7, the cast and crew of Death on the Nile attended a private dinner to celebrate the release of their new movie in London. Held at the British Museum, director and star of the film, Kenneth Branagh was joined at the event by Tom Bateman, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Rose Leslie, Jennifer Saunders, producer Judy Hofflund and executive producer James Prichard, and guest Daisy Ridley.

Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying search for a murderer when a picture-perfect couple’s idyllic honeymoon is tragically cut short. Set against an epic landscape of sweeping desert vistas and the majestic Giza pyramids, this dramatic tale of love gone wrong features a cosmopolitan group of impeccably dressed travelers and enough wicked twists and turns to leave audiences guessing until the final, shocking denouement.

The movie will open in theaters this Friday, February 11.

Rose Leslie on bonding over motherhood and murder (‘Radio Times Magazine’ Interview)

Unly 5 days left until Rose is back on our screens in BBC drama « Vigil » ! Rose sadly isn’t able to promote the show with the rest of the cast as she’s still in New York filming HBO’s « The Time Traveler’s Wife », but a short interview of her is featured in the latest issue of Radio Times Magazine (scans available in the gallery here). A new still and promotional picture featuring Rose as DS Kirsten Longacre and Suranne Jones as DCI Amy Silva have also been released, enjoy !

What appealed to you about Vigil?
« The fact that it was a BBC drama. Sunday-night dramas were a staple of our household, and they were a big part of my teenage years, so that was a massive pull. The other big factor was Suranne Jones. »

She told me you two became great friends…
« When I came back to filming in August last year, I was six months pregnant — and she gave me such wonderful tips, so we very much bonded over motherhood. I’ve got all the time in the world for Suranne. »

Do you enjoy watching murder mysteries and police dramas?
« I love procedurals and my favourite television programme is Luther. Now being part of one is very, very cool. I think Vigil is going to be a gripping television series that people can get behind. »

You’re associated with a lot of long-running dramas such as Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones. Is there a difference in how you approach a series like Vigil that has only six episodes?
« In my head there is an end point, and there’s a satisfaction in playing a character where you have a finite amount of time to play her and to make sure that all of the tics that she has are established on screen and embed who she is as a person. It’s wonderful to have a shorter lifespan for a character. I find it more satisfactory. »

How much did the fact you grew up in Scotland help in nailing the accent, too?
« I think it gave me a head start. I definitely had a Scottish accent when I was younger. My family and I moved to France when I was about ten, but I kind of tapped into what I remember from all those years ago. »

Was there a particular moment during filming Vigil that stands out?
« We were in a quarry in the middle of nowhere in the beautiful Scottish landscape. The vastness was out there in front of you, and I was feeling very queasy because I was about eight months pregnant. And just before I had to film my scene, I had to run behind a bush to be sick. So I kept apologising to the hair and make-up people whenever they came anywhere near me because of my breath! »

BBC One’s « Vigil » to launch in August

Good news, Rose will soon be back on our screens in new BBC’s thriller « Vigil » in only two weeks ! To accompany the news, new images have been released, including one featuring Rose as DS Kirsten Longacre and Gary Lewis as Detective Superintendent Colin Robertson.

Episode one will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 9pm on Sunday 29 August, with episode two at 9pm on the Bank Holiday Monday, 30 August. Vigil will then continue each Sunday night, with new episodes premiering weekly on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The six-part drama from World Productions (Line Of Duty, The Pembrokeshire Murders, Save Me, Bodyguard) stars Suranne Jones, Rose Leslie, Shaun Evans, Martin Compston and Paterson Joseph.

When a crew member is found dead on board the Trident nuclear submarine HMS Vigil, police in Scotland are called in to investigate. The catch? The UK’s nuclear deterrent must remain unbroken, so the submarine stays on patrol and Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva (Suranne Jones) must go aboard to begin an investigation. Although the death was written off as an accidental overdose, Amy suspects foul play. But when the crew close ranks in the face of Amy’s questioning, a new threat overshadows her inquiry.

Vigil’s stellar ensemble cast also features Anjli Mohindra, Connor Swindells, Adam James, Gary Lewis, Stephen Dillane, Lolita Chakrabarti, Daniel Portman, Lorne MacFadyen and Lauren Lyle.

The fictional six-part series is written and created by BAFTA-nominated writer Tom Edge, with episodes by Ed Macdonald and Chandni Lakhani. It is directed by Bafta-winner James Strong, and Isabelle Sieb. Vigil is produced by Angie Daniell, executive produced by Simon Heath and Jake Lushington for World Productions, Gaynor Holmes for the BBC, James Strong and Tom Edge.

Vigil is set and was filmed in Scotland, and is supported by the National Lottery through Screen Scotland. International distribution is handled by ITV Studios.

MS Society UK’s #TeamStopMS Campaign

Following her previous work with charity MS Society UK, Rose is featured (alongside husband Kit Harington) in their new campaign video released today. It sees stars ‘audition’ to join #TeamStopMS and help fund life-changing MS research by supporting the MS Society any way they can – whether that’s donating, fundraising, or simply spreading the word on social media. Recorded in November 2019, Kit takes part in a bucket collection with Breeders actor Alun Armstrong, and Rose undergoes a bike-athon fundraiser compèred by Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills.

All of the celebs (including Rose, Kit, Andy Serkis, chef Ainsley Harriott, radio DJ Scott Mills, actor Alun Armstrong and comedian Ivo Graham) involved in the scenes have a personal connection with the illness. The campaign is part of the MS Society’s Stop MS Appeal, which needs to raise £100 million to find treatments for everyone living with MS.

Sharing what the campaign means to her, Rose said :

“The MS Society is very close to my heart, and the work they do is incredible. I want to support them in raising funds for MS research because we’re so close to finding real and long-lasting solutions to tackle this condition. We have shown through the pandemic that with concentrated effort and funding, we can overcome momentous challenges, and I believe we can do this with MS too. »

“Being involved in the Team Stop MS shoot was a lot of fun, especially watching Andy Serkis do his thing – what a physical genius! Everybody stopped what they were doing and just admired him from afar. But it was also just a really positive thing to be part of generally, with everyone there sharing the common goal of stopping MS. I’m happy to be part of their family.”

Besides the video, pictures of Rose filming the campaign and posing in a « TeamStopMS » t-shirt have also been released :
