Ygritteis a wildling woman whom Jon Snow encounters during his first ranging beyond the Wall. She is a quick-witted, courageous young spearwife who has red hair and displays great skill as an archer. Living north of the Wall, she is well skilled in survival and is staunchly loyal to the cause of Mance Rayder. She values her status as a free woman, and disparages those living south of the Wall as ‘kneelers’, who blindly followed hereditary leaders instead of choosing a king.
Game of Thrones is roughly based on the storylines of A Song of Ice and Fire, set in the fictional Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and the continent of Essos. The series chronicles the violent dynastic struggles among the realm’s noble families for the Iron Throne, while other families fight for independence from it.
