Rose Leslie & Helene Yorke on their characters’ relationship

PEOPLE – One of Game of Thrones‘ greatest love stories was that of Jon Snow and Ygritte — and now, Rose Leslie fans have a new on-screen romance to look forward to. The actress is set to star in the upcoming Good Wife spinoff, The Good Fight, as Maia Rindell, Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski)’s goddaughter, who joins the Lockhart/Lee firm just before a massive scandal upends both of their lives.

PEOPLE caught up with the cast at the show’s premiere party in New York City on Wednesday evening, and actress Heléne Yorke dished on what it was like playing the character of Amy, Maia’s longtime girlfriend.

“I literally went into this audition because I got an email and it said: ‘Rose Leslie is playing this character and Amy is her girlfriend,’ ” said Yorke. “I’ve always been such a fan of hers, always been such a fan of Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey, and I just knew it would be so great to work with her.”

“She brings such a grounded energy,” she continued. “Our characters have been in this relationship for a long time and you sort of get that sense because she and I have a very easy, natural way with one another.” So, how does she feel about any comparisons to Kit Harington‘s Jon Snow? “I like to think that I’m winning as a fictional partner!” said Yorke with a laugh. But jokes aside, Yorke couldn’t be happier about the role. “What’s really nice is that it doesn’t feel like: ‘Oh, the character is a gay female,’ ” she said. “It just feels like she’s in this relationship. So there’s not a real meal made out of it, which is what I think does it so much credit and does the show so much credit.”

And Leslie, 30, agrees. “Her sexuality has nothing to do with whom she is in the show,” Leslie told PEOPLE. “It is a fact, and she’s just in a very loving relationship.” So is the star looking forward to taking on a brand-new role, leaving beloved Ygritte aside? “I’m phenomenally excited to be able to have the opportunity to explore different characters with different television shows,” she said. “I think that I’m a very lucky actor to be able to do that.” (source)

VOGUE – The new legal drama The Good Fight may have spun off of CBS blockbuster The Good Wife, but star Rose Leslie, a newcomer to the franchise who plays a young lawyer mired by a Madoff-like Ponzi scandal, has an impressive TV backstory of her own: In addition to playing key roles on two rabidly watched dramas, Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey, Leslie is also Jon Snow’s real-life better half.

Not going to lie—FaceTime is brilliant,” she said of her relationship with GoT comeback kid Kit Harington. “I think it will always be tricky if you happen to fall in love with somebody who’s in the same profession, whether you’re actors, doctors, or lawyers,” Leslie added, wearing a frock by Lafayette 148. “Heléne Yorke [Masters of Sex] plays my girlfriend on the show. We hit it off, so it was easy to slot into her body language. Their relationship starts out so solid, but it becomes, like any relationship, a bit tumultuous as the season progresses.” (source)

THE PICTURE JOURNALWhat is something you wish took less time?
I wish blow drying your own hair took less time.

What subject or idea has your perspective shifted or expanded the most from because of a film? It doesn’t have to be one you worked on.
Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. My perspective on our universe and planet has shifted dramatically, I find it utterly compelling and fascinating.

From a fan perspective, what film, television show, or album did you anticipate the most or for the longest?
Bear’s Den’s newest album, Red Earth & Pouring Rain – I was longing for it to come out.

What natural phenomena do you find the most compelling or objectively beautiful?
I was fortunate enough to watch the Northern Lights once, the sheer beauty and bewitching power that they held over all of us witnessing it will stay with me forever.

What is a game that you are hopelessly unskilled at but love anyway?
Playing Wink Murder around a table with friends. I’m still trying to master actual winking rather than constantly blinking at someone when I’m trying to kill them!

If you had to pick another given name for yourself, which would you choose?
I’ve always loved the name Theo.

What is the best or worst question you’ve been asked in an audition?
Best Question Ever – “Would you be happy to take scuba diving lessons?”

Is there anything you wish you didn’t know?
Being told the ending of Breaking Bad before I’d watched it myself!

If you could pick any film from history to work on as a crew member – what film and position would you go with?
Any position on the crew of the film Gladiator.

How did you get your first scar?
Riding my bicycle as a kid and flying over the handlebars! I have a scar on my forehead that I’m very proud of.

One of your upcoming projects, Morgan, centers around a young girl raised in a laboratory with super-human capabilities. What scientific study have you found the most interesting to learn more about? Even if it was an unethical study.
Recreating George’s Marvellous Medicine when I was younger with my brothers and sisters. I didn’t learn a lot but it was one of my favourite days ever.

THE TELEGRAPH – Rose Leslie has just had her first holiday in over a year, in the south of France with some girlfriends. ‘Obviously, you can see I’m sporting a brilliant tan,’ she jokes when we meet in London, holding out her pale, freckled arms. ‘They all became bronzed goddesses, while I was stuck in the shade, slowly but surely turning into a lobster.

She’s wearing a relaxed, stylish denim jumpsuit and actually looks great, with not a hint of sunburn. But Rose, 29, is never slow to tell a story in which she looks daft, whether it’s about performing a humiliating face-plant while running over Icelandic terrain in Game of Thrones, or an inability to dance in her new film Sticky Notes, in which she plays… a professional dancer. ‘I’m British!’ she says, when I point out her self-deprecating trait. ‘What can I say?

The middle of five children, she says in a large family this kind of humour is a survival skill. ‘There’s a huge thing of taking the piss out of yourself. If you don’t, you get gunned by your siblings.’ The irony is that as an actress, Rose has a lot to be proud of. One of her first jobs was a major role in Downton Abbey, as ambitious maid Gwen Parkes. It could have been hard to top that, but she managed it with the global phenomenon that is Game of Thrones, possibly the biggest show in TV history. Her character, the fiery, feral wildling Ygritte, first appeared in 2012 in season two, and her flirty love/hate relationship with one of the central characters, Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington), was riveting to watch – especially after Rose and Kit became a couple in real life.

In a show where sex is frequently about power and, as Rose says, ‘Getting your kit off is almost like a rite of passage for a woman within the series,’ the moment when Ygritte and Jon become lovers is surprising for being a genuinely tender scene. ‘They only had eyes for each other and there was no game play,’ Rose says.  But for the actors themselves, the scene had no romance at all. She tells me it took several takes to shed her character’s furs gracefully, and then there was an awkward moment when she realised she’d forgotten to loosen her laces before the cameras rolled, so she was hopping about half-naked, trying to pull her boots off. ‘Luckily that scene wasn’t shot in Iceland,’ she laughs, ‘otherwise we’d all have been freezing!’ On set, like many couples involved in an office romance, she and Harington tried to keep their relationship secret. ‘But we failed miserably. We wouldn’t flirt in front of other people [and] we thought that nobody knew, but they did. And it doesn’t matter; it’s fine.’ They’re both private people, though, and neither wants to offer up their whole lives for scrutiny. But with so many paparazzi shots of them together, it was also pointless continuing to be coy about the relationship. In April, they finally made their official public debut as a couple at the Olivier Awards in London. ‘He was presenting an award, and it was wonderful to get ready for the red carpet together.’ […]
